Fans of the legendary band, who confirmed plans to reform for a string of worldwide concert dates last year, will be out in force for their only Middle East show.

This year will see the original line-up back on stage together for the first time in 19 years. The lineup features Shaun Ryder, his brother Paul, guitarist Mark Day, Paul Davis and drummer Gary Whelan Mark ‘Bez’ Berry and Rowetta.

“It’s as if we’ve never been apart – so good to all be in the same room again. We can’t wait now to get on tour and play the songs that made us famous,” said lead singer Shaun Ryder after the reformation was announced.

Emerging from the Manchester nightclub scene of the late 1980s, the Happy Mondays found mainstream success with albums such as Bummed and Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches.

People heading to the concert venue located at The Irish Village can expect to hear classic tracks such as Step On, Kinky Afro, Wrote for Luck, Hallelujah and 24 Hour Party People.

Tickets are priced at 200/- General standing and seating and 350/- for the VIP enclosure. Doors will open at 1900 – The support act is still yet to be announced by promoters The Talent Brokers.

Tickets will be on sale from Tuesday 5th March 2013

Happy Mondays Live at The Forum – Sat June 29 2013

Following their incredible two night residency at The Roundhouse in December, the legendary ‘Madchester’ band the Happy Mondays return to London for a special performance at The Forum.

In 2012 The Happy Mondays announced a return to the live stage, reuniting the full original line up for the first time in over 19 years. Following two sold out nights at the Brixton Academy, they followed these shows up with a visit to the Roundhouse courtesy of CME welcoming the acid house pioneers 808 State along for the ride.

In 1985 the Happy Mondays fused a sound that owed as much to northern soul and funk as it did rock and psychedelia. It was however the influence of the house music records beaming in from Chicago that had the most profound effect on the band. In 1990 they released the ‘Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’ album which collided with the acid house and rave movement that had swept the UK, firmly putting The Happy Mondays on the map as one of the most inspiring bands to come out of England in the early 1990s. The rest as they say, is history.

With the classic cuts ‘Step On’, ‘Kinky Afro’, ‘Hallelujah’ and of course the track mirrored by a film of the same name ‘24 Hour Party People’ cementing the bands reputation as one of the most advantageous and colorful of the last 20 years, June 29th will no doubt be one show not to be missed!

For the first time in Australia- the definitive original line-up!

Australian Tour Poster

KillRockStar Big Dog Entertainment are thrilled to present Happy Mondays for the first time in Australia- the definitive original line-up!

Fusing the euphoric elements of acid house and rave with joyous indie guitar pop, Manchester’s Happy Mondays became one of the most influential UK bands of the later 20th century.  Instigating a cosmic psychedelic shift that is still being felt in music today, the Mondays delivered a salvo of classic tracks and club anthems that were not only highly danceable, but contained enough visceral emotion and raw chemical energy to continually excite and engage a generation.  Tracks like Step On, 24 Hour Party People, Wrote For Luck, Loose Fit and Kinky Afro showcased the band’s unique ability to unify the divide between dance music and rock ‘n’ roll.

With an original line-up that included Shaun Ryder on lead vocals, his brother Paul Ryder on bass, lead guitarist Mark Day, drummer Gary Whelan and the legendary Mark “Bez” Berry on dance and vibes, the Mondays released their classic debut Squirrel And G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) in 1987 to widespread critical acclaim. The albums that followed,  1988′s Bummed  and then Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches in 1990 were received as instant classics and cemented the Mondays at the forefront of the UK scene the press had dubbed as ‘Madchester’.

The band’s 4th album Yes Please! was released in 1992  after which various incarnations of the band followed as did the 2007 release of Unkle Dysfunktional which saw continuing to tour the globe to much acclaim. In 2012 Shaun Ryder announced that the original Happy Mondays line-up would be reuniting and a sold out UK tour quickly followed. 2012 saw the release of Double Double Good and more sold out shows around the planet. The band recently reconvened in the studio for the first new album with the original line-up in 20 years which is due for release in 2013.

We board the tour bus in Manchester for what has become a typical early departure time. Whilst most of England sleeps we head southbound to France en-route to Malmo, Sweden.

The British winter has once again arrived fashionably late, bringing with it what is best described as ‘Dick Turpin’ weather. Camouflaged countryside submerged in a lazy mischievous mist that seems to browse amongst the trees and fields like a pickpocket on market day. (more…)

Gaz WhelanWe finally depart Edinburgh around 4 a.m. and begin our overnight journey to Belgium. Fortunately, we are travelling in extreme comfort and style. Tour buses are incredible machines, some containing every luxury possible for a hard working touring musician or even the most pampered Roman emperor. But due to the late addition of the Belgium and Croatia gigs coupled with the fact that it’s festival season very few buses are available and our destiny is again in the lap of the gods. But like Athena looking down upon Odysseus and his troops a certain god unbeknown to us is smiling in our direction.

The Chilli peppers cancel last minute and decide to fly during their U.K. tour leaving a magnificent and luxurious bus available for our leisure, pleasure, travel…. and oh work as well. Parquet flooring, plasma TV’s, 2 lounges, 2 bathrooms, queen size bunks with individual TV’s and Bang & Olufsen music systems, and a state of the art kitchen all of which wouldn’t be out of place in a Manhattan loft apartment. Suddenly the 30-hour drive back from Croatia doesn’t seem so daunting? (more…)

We eventually depart Manchester around 9.30pm. Our designated pick up point is a car park close to the rehearsal room that is large enough to accommodate a big tour bus. Fortunately, (or unfortunately) the said car park also happened to belong to a famous Stockport Public House. This accompanied by the fact we are suddenly and surprisingly embracing an almost posthumous summer and also eagerly greeting the advent of an August bank holiday, we indulge in a “few” drinks. The wine and beer tasting continues for some individuals en-route until we eventually reached our hotel in the deserted highlands. Julie even manages to get drunk twice in one evening, once at the pub and then again on the tour bus…groundbreaking! (more…)
